Exhibit Koala
This mature male was brought to us from farming country near Guyra which is a town just north of Armidale on the northern tablelands of NSW. Allan was suffering from severe bilateral kerato-conjunctivitis (an infection caused by the bacterium *Chlamydia). Even after many weeks of treatment and surgery, we were unable to restore his sight and he is now blind.
Guyra Allan recovered well and is chlamydia negative. Due to his lack of vision, Allan was not suitable for release back to his home range.
Guyra Allan is another excellent teaching animal to show veterinarians, wildlife carers and researchers the long term results of the effects this disease has on wild koalas.
